I've tried to download Mir on my mac and use virtual box to run windows XP and Mir...

got it all set up, logged in, lagged out and char is banned for 1 day?

I'm assuming I've broken some kind of rule here but not sure how or what? Is it possible to run mir on a macbook this way? if not, is there another way to do it?

Never tried it myself but I've heard of a few people successfully playing on macs, so I'm pretty sure it's allowed. Bit strange having a temporary ban appear, must be some kind of automated protection, but against what, hmmm. Tempted to have a go at running Arcadia within virtualbox myself just to see what all the fuss is about. Hope GM is along soon to assist

In future you don't need to bother with Vbox for running mir, if you use WINE it should run almost flawlessly.

I've had the client running on a few different linux distro's (most recently Manjaro) and its opened the exe, pulled the windows dependencies and run the client without any hassle.
