Could be loads of potential reasons, but the most common cause of that is automatic ban triggered by timing issues with your CPU. This seems to happen sometimes to people who play in a VM (like mac users running virtualbox).
It is a system to prevent cheating but unfortunately it also picks up false positives sometimes and can ban innocent people. Does happen relatively rarely so you may have just been unlucky.
If it happens again and you've really done nothing wrong then it would be worth sending GM a polite email asking him to look into it.
