Elemental damage vs Magic attack socket items

Morning all
There's quite a difference in price between Ele damage +1% (Green discipline gems) vs Magic Attack + 1% Arcane Runes.
Elemental adds the 1% to all magic attack types I believe eg Fire, Dark etc but does the Magic attack add 1% to your MC? (eg a player with 600 MC will get a 1% boost on that, 6MC)
Given the big price difference is there that much benefit in socketing with Arcane runes over the gems or am I missing something basic here?
Thanks

High demand, high price. Elemental 1% is fire/dark/holy/ice/lightning all rolled into one stat. Magic Attack 1% fluctuates, it is worth 6 MC on a 600 MC, but it can stack with other potions to make people have way over 1.5k MC and even warriors at nearly 2k DC now with 1% Physical. You would do a lot more damage with that DC/MC than if you stacked Elemental % runes.

Not entirely true as a 1% element even for someone with over 1k dc/mc/sc can add more damage to some skills over a +10 or +1%ma/pa/sa rune

I see what you are getting at, and I haven't tested what you are saying, usually primary stat is always going to be better than 1% elemental stat though.
I have 15% elemental stat on my Tao and it definitely does have a part to play when looking to be versatile which is important on a Tao, but I wouldn't want to swap it for my 24.4% SoulAttack increase.

The difficulty comes with the fact that elements have different levels of effect on different skills, I've done a very small amount of research on the matter, just enough to understand how complicated it would be, then decided just to stick with raw MC/MA and DC/PA. Getting high element instead of high primary stat will be good for a small subset of skills, and worse on others. But then the ratios change every time you decide whether to use pots/buffs or not, so there's a huge area of research that could be done there and probably just isn't worth the effort. Maybe I'll have a stab at it one day, but no doubt GM will then change everything up and all the research would be for the bin.

One thing I want to say is. Since I started building a propa kit I’ve gone purely for Physical attack and dc.
When lvling to 155 I had fire dmg kit. I remember seeing 30k flame swords on mobs. I haven’t seen that kind of damage since I went into full dc/pa. max I see now is 18k
I think dc mc dc pa sai mai is good all round all purpose dmg. However I believe if I’d gone with pure fire dmg my fire spells would be doing close to double the dmg I currently deal.

Yeah I agree, there are gains to be had, but only for certain skills while others will be worse. Working out which skills will benefit and which won't and knowing for sure whether or not that will benefit you overall will involve a lot of complicated calculations.

There's always some kind of balance to be had, that 30k FS might have been nice but was fire frenzy the same effect or was it worse
