Just curious here.. but I've been looking at all the content/servers etc on LOMCN and is there a reason that every other server is producing tons of new content/features/improvements on a scale much larger than the most popular server which is this?

My thoughts are that this uses Heroes Mir source files which no one else seems to use? Or is it just Crystal Mir is so much more developed but is less like the original that people don't want?

Would be nice to see some of the amazing content that other servers have introduced, not sure if it's possible to merge data from crystal mir into heroes though? With all the hype over the new last chapter server, it would be interesting to know what's coming to Arcadia instead.

Happy discussing! :dread:

If I had to guess I would speculate that when you have no players you develop like mad to lure them and when you have all the players you try your best to keep stability. The content updates with level cap raises and the fine tuning is the norm for development cycles, never ending flurries of updates to the core game play make the game unrecognisable a year later and will chase many people away from your game.

Hell look at the history of crying and outrage on this forum every time something is tweaked or changed or even fixed. Game development is a delicate balancing act of minimising the tears and doing your best to stop a mass exodus and 14? odd years later its pretty clear Andy's worked it out.

True.. makes sense.

It’s because they have dumb gm’s who have no idea how to make a server last more than 3 months. They’re money grabbers. They’re in unbalanced. Andy runs this server with a perfect amount of events and updates. The way he does things means the server doesn’t get flooded with items. It also keeps people like myself interested and keeps us hunting. If we had everything easy then we’d get bored. There is tons of new content. We literally just got orc city update. The way arcadia is set up is to last a long time. No one wants to buy a kit then two weeks later it’s worthless because the dumb gms added loads more new items to sell.

Crystal files are sooooooo broken. U open a c files server and it get popular then ur gonna get completely smashed to bits by Chinese hackers. They know so many loopholes in c files. Look at apoc server. Chinks had a gold exploit from day 1.

The reason I play Mir is for nostalgia... I've played a couple of crystal files servers and never lasted more than a couple of days, they just don't do it for me, they are too far away from what Mir was. p69 is like the son of Dragon server, and Arcadia is like the grandson, direct descendants. Anything using crystal is like a distant cousin.

The reason there are so many crystal files servers going is because they are so much easier to throw together and fire constant updates at, the people who make them are just in it for a quick buck and don't care if the server is ruined in a few months, they'll just bin it and make another one.

Lol, what are these tons of new features for example?

C# is definitely easier to code but I can't imagine being able to transfer all that we have here, in a reasonable time-frame to make it worthwhile.

In defense:
  • You are possibly looking at 10 other servers and asking why they have 10 features we don't
  • I would hazard that you are somewhat overlooking a lot of the features we have and they don't
  • Some features sound good on paper but in game don't really deliver
  • As others have said, like home renovations vs a new-build, we are not just building a new room, we are knocking down a wall first and making sure the house doesn't collapse.
  • I would say that around 2 out of 5 days are accessible to development where the other 3 are looking after other issues
  • Sometimes you really have to crack me over the head to convince me to do something. Adding 10 new features isn't necessarily good for the game and I won't ok something until I fully believe that it is
  • I believe our content releases are extremely thorough, generally 3 new bosses and groups of monsters with all new AI, full item sets

Fox example look at Rise of the Archons, completely different environment, 8 character classes, possibly double the skills used on Arcadia, different interface, etc, and that is all contained in the same exe as Arcadia

We must use the right features in the right place!

By all means keep making suggestions however, don't be deterred by any rejection
