Was at max demon souls and figured I might as well burn some on something. Found an old weapon in store with 41 crit, thought let's get that up to 50 cos why not

Spent 2000 souls on 500 bene oils and got it from 41.... to 42.

Yep, +1 crit from 500 bene

I know rates are low, but that feels like more than just bad luck. It fluctuated between 39 and 43, but the + and - basically cancelled each other out.

Is that in line with expectation or should it be easier than that to get 50 crit on a weapon?

I was doing a EM Wand Tuesday? Did the same 2k in bene's from DS and went from 0 to 54, got to 50 CH really easy only 8ish of negative on the way to 50. But after 50, if it added 1 it would take 2 off straight after with the next 2 bene but tbh I've done this quite a few times with weapons and I'd say it was as normal.

I believe (not certain) that @Scorpian said higher the weapon or with 3 upgrades on it, the harder it will be to have success.

I remember in Euro days when someone found a cheat to see if bene would work or not and they were all running around with Luck +10 on weapons.
 
Yeah I get higher level stuff should be harder to do, makes sense. This is a level 176 FrozenMirSword. Weirdly, I'm sure it used to be level 175. Either someone's at it or I'm losing my mind
 
Success gets less likely the wider the min-max of dc/mc/sc. I suppose that was because the biggest benefit was gained from weapons with the largest range
 
I've already used 1000 bene and gained 1 crit. And that took a lot less than an hour. I think buying from shop is still faster
