End of the Road: A Noob's Farewell to Arcadia | The Legend of Mir

End of the Road: A Noob's Farewell to Arcadia

Alas, the weary cry of a downtrodden wizard!
I yield, for noobs like myself find no welcome in these lands!
I ventured to IKU, battling 19 times, even snagging a super in a miraculous 15-minute dance where higher levels spared me. Yet, no books fell from the sky.
Just now returning to IKU, I was dwarfed by levels 151, 165, and 170. How can a humble noob such as I stand against such titans?

Amidst the drama and the insurmountable walls we noobs face, it seems my journey in this realm has reached its end. Farewell!

tl;dr: Frustrated with the game's challenges and feeling unwelcome as a noob, especially after fruitless efforts at IKU and encountering much higher-level players PK-ing. Considering not playing anymore.

EDIT: Image is me trying to get to IKU, but meeting higher lvl people.

What book are you missing bud?

I've said this before and i wish it were more intuitive in the game guide, books drop more off supers and champs on the floors of the bosses.

I can agree I was on my low level wiz taming hulks yesterday in there and saw often high levels enter iku , the game should not allow entry to caves if your say 10 levels higher than the boss , if this was applied to all sub 160 caves would stop this happening and allow low levels to grind in relative peace
Also books for noobs needs to be addressed why not have it auto learn when you reach the appropriate level up to say level 150
To be honest most players not bothered with the trickle gold and would rather have more players on the server so the demand for higher Level and price items is healthy
You can have all the cele gear etc you want in the AH but if no 1 makes to that level to wear due to giving up on the server that’s no sales
Etc

This is just such a shame to be losing not just a new player but someone who brings a personality and a unique sense of joy to the forums. This is why new guilds are so important. What skills are you searching for EFW and I can try to help you get past that Iku obstacle; the game get substantially easier once you are higher as it just becomes more about the endless grind in a chosen cave. As someone said, supers and champs drop more and to prompt their spawns you have to go round the same map a few times, killing everything in your path.

Pretty much what gritt said. I've been saying the same thing for a while.

Sadly people do make money off of selling nooby books and while I don't agree with it, it is a legitimate way of making gg and gold, but they can only do this because drops of books are camped and the only thing to gauge prices off of is the GG shop at 100gg each.

I suggested scaling the prices based on level of book but people seemed against it.

In the vast realm of Arcadia, I'm well-versed in the art of clearing floors for supers and champs, in hopes of book drops. But alas, in Svaltus, such creatures are nonexistent. In IKU, my efforts were met not with books, but with aggressive souls. Even when I triumphed over a red-aura IKU, it yielded runes and treasures, but no books.

Restricting levels in caves, I fear, might trap adventurers in a web of missed opportunities. New caves emerge every few levels, and overzealous clearing might lead one to bypass others.

A pondering solution: make these treasured locations less accessible. In Zuma Dungeon, a lengthy journey deters many, offering a quieter hunt. Yet, in places like IKU and MutantMines and Cistene Cave, one can lurk like a shadow, reappearing at will. Why not add a challenge, to reach these bosses? This might thin the crowd, even those of lofty levels.

And while your offer of assistance is as generous as a king's feast, it may only draw more high-level behemoths to IKU.

tl;dr: I'm aware of the strategy but struggling with it. I suggest making boss areas harder to reach so people can't just log in every 10 minutes to check on them. Thanks for the offer to help, but it might worsen the situation at IKU and other bosses.

The book and rune drops system is pretty broken in the game at the moment and it would be a shame to lose such a ‘flowery’ newcomer to the game for something that could be addressed by a few changes to the game mechanics. I get the feeling that many others quit playing when they got to your stage out of frustration.

Prevent logout in any cave - if you're in a cave when you log out, you will be in town when you log back in
Delete teleport rings and recall sets from the game completely

If GM did those two things, he'd lose a ton of money on tele ring sales, but the game would be so much more engaging!

Perchance not a teleport back to town, but a whisk to the previous floor would be a boon. And oh, if bosses sprouted like wildflowers in random locations, not just at fixed points! It would transform the boss hunt into a true quest, giving even us underdogs a sporting chance, while adding a pinch of excitement for the higher levels.
But to banish the teleportation ring? Nay, that I cannot endorse. A relic of yore, it shone like a star on the Game Network, the rarest of treasures. It's a symbol of our game, a beacon of its history, even if its rarity has waned with the passing seasons.

tl;dr: Suggest teleporting to the previous floor, not town. Random boss spawns for fairer chances. Against removing the teleportation ring, as it's iconic to the game.

@EpicFailWizard Unfortunately books can bring a very frustrating thing to get especially as a low level / new player >< sent you a pm but feel free to give me a message if you need a hand with anything or let me know what books you need ill be happy to help 😀

This is one of the things I love about Rota.

Iku was originally designed as a semi-super boss hence the more colourful drops.
The respawn rate was originally 3h but was lowered as demand increased.

If you are unable to kill Iku then there is Gunakadeit who spawns every 30 minutes and three floors of mobs who will drop either the skill or the pages to make the skill.

Getting powerful is probably the most important goal in Mir. And exercising that power is the reward.
I don't personally see why things should be taken away from those who have earnt it. I think it is against the competitive nature and a core aspect of the game.

That said, there may very well be a disconnect between ease of accessibility of low level bosses to high level players and "their own" content that needs addressing somehow.

Skills have always been hard sought and earnt. Players seem to come here and believe they are X level they should automatically have Y skill (believing that level is the only limiting factor). That is not the design.

An issue with speeding up progression further is that players miss out on extremely useful game content and lessons - using a variety of skills and meeting a variety of monster types.

Starting at level 150 with all the skills would be terrifying for a new player, and increase bounce rate, or expedite the deflating "progress wall".
We did try this on Project69 back in the noughties.

Because that was the way it was for 10 years and it was reviled. It instilled a sense we were artificially making skill drops more difficult, in order to sell them on the GG shop. I don't believe there has been a complaint since regarding skills in the Game Shop.

The current prices allow those who want to to skip content and also prevent other players from overpricing skill books to new players

Are you currently guilded @EpicFailWizard ? If so is it an active guild..?

The reason I ask is alot of skills drop in arena, or even at bosses to have an active guild will help you no end mate.

If the answer to either of those is no then hit me up in game and I’ll guild you and we will help 😊

I hate to see new players leave (especially due to frustration) plus I think the way in which you word your posts on here is brilliant lol 😊

If you need any help I’m on a lot just send me a message

Tbh Andy the drops need evening out across the board, I can go do a round of noob bosses and return with 6/7m worth of items to sell, I go on a full round of 180 bosses and come back worse off than when I went. This is exactly the reason why newer players cannot get lower level bosses as all the higher players are doing those bosses just to earn gold

That’s so true helped someone at biles and dropped a few bits I didn’t need them they guy took some stuff and tted so I picked up a fury armour sold to shop for like 1,3 mil. lol I don’t even get that for a soulweaver armour
It’s no wonder people are farming lower end subs etc if gold from lower level
Items is 2 /3 times more than 180 plus stuff

Whatever happens, people will still farm lower level content because it is easy.

EpicFailWizard you have had messages offering support on this thread from players much better than me, Eminem or SexyMama.. Both of those players can help you way beyond IkuTurso.

FireStorm is the book that Hunter's Resource tells me drops at Iku, there are 2 copies for sale in AuctionHouse listed for gold.

Ultimately it stems from the lowering of the prices for higher end items, I kind of see why he wanted to cull the gold a little bit however, cash sinks work far better as it wouldn’t have created this problem or at least on other servers I’ve played it has, can’t see why the same wouldn’t apply here. If you show up to a 130 boss in 130 gear you shouldn’t be having to contend with 190+ people for that boss, imo just the evening out of prices, maybe add 10/20% on what the higher items currently sell for, I don’t believe that higher levels will still farm low bosses, my reason for this is I’m a high level war and up until recently never bothered to go lower bosses, now I’m having to, I’m sure there are others like me too, we’d much prefer to be at bigger bosses but it’s not economically viable to do so currently

Yes but much more now where iku has always been intensively farmed most noob bosses wernt now leoric, swt even ground mover is never home

In my opinion when we no longer get demon souls from a boss we should no longer get a drop

Problem with this is, people will make a char and level it to 130 in a day, then kit it for a couple of mill and still farm it

The best solution is to make it not worth going for the higher levels and the best way to do that is to make it more viable to hunt the higher bosses

I see your point but people will always find a way to get access

Personally I think instances would be a brilliant idea in game, have totems at the entrance to caves, allow entry in either a small group or singular, apply cooldowns on entry dependant on the boss level and have them drop the smaller items, runes etc (which is what the lower bosses mainly get farmed for) the drops wouldn’t have to be as good as the main bosses in the cave, but it would certainly please the pve community to be able to get bosses for a change and it would also mean that the lower ones aren’t getting farmed anywhere near as much. Chronicles added this with great effect, I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work just as well here

Just an idea 💡😊
