Sorry but that's really funny, I think chance to get it back is quite low, check other traders you might get lucky, although now you've posted it everyone else will also be doing that!
an npc somewhere out there is selling a gold bar..
From what i noticed, sometimes when you sell something to a npc... it appears on a totally different npc on a different map. so have a go at checking those other npcs on different maps.. it might just still be there
